This mounting system is compatible with threadless 1-1/8" *metal* steerer tubes. This mount takes the place of your headset top cap and serves as the new top cap to preload the headset bearings. You will need to drive the star nut much lower inside the steerer tube and you will need a very long 4mm allen key to install the preload bolt deep inside the mount. We offer an economical tool bundle that includes the two tools needed to perform these tasks.

Will this work with a carbon steerer tube?
The insertable portion of the mounting tube has an outside diameter of 24.0mm, requiring the inside diameter of your fork's steerer tube to be at least slightly *larger* than 24mm. We have not seen any carbon fiber steerer tubes that have a large enough inside diameter to accommodate this mount. Additionally, star nuts cannot be used with carbon steerer tubes, so you would need to find some sort of expander plug that can be set very deep inside the steerer tube and will accept the M6x1 preload bolt.

Will this work with a very short steerer tube or tapered steerer tube?
The insertable length is 159mm, meaning the highest part of your star nut needs to be about 165mm below the top surface of the stem (or highest spacer if there are spacers above the stem).

Your steerer tube must have a useable internal depth of at least 185mm as measured from the top of the stem (or highest spacer above the stem) to have room for the new lower star nut location. Very short steerer tubes or tapered steerer tubes should be measured/inspected carefuly before ordering to ensure that the star nut can be driven low enough without hitting any restrictions at the fork crown or falling out the bottom where the tapered section begins.
