I bought some of these Junk Straps years ago, and I still use them all the time for so many wildly varying purposes. Unlike a bungee cord, these have negligible stretch so they are great when you don't want things to be able to move around. The roller cam lock system is exactly the same mechanism used with old-school road bike pedal toe clips, but the straps are four feet long.

They can secure an entire case of freezie pops to your Brompton rear rack, rattle-proof a wheelset being transported on a cargo bike, lash your crank arm to your chainstay to allow two-handed pedal wrench shenanigans, keep a fork and front wheel from falling out of a frame while you swap a threadless stem, serve as an emergency belt when you forgot to wear one and your pants are a little loose, or even hold an ice pack to your forehead after failing spectacularly at boogie boarding. I've done all of these things and more, and the Junk Straps are always ready for more. Get a few; you won't regret it!

All you ever need, strap-wise. Review by Sofie
5 5 All you ever need, strap-wise.

Unless you're doing nutty things that require ridiculously heavy-duty ratchet straps, a pair of Surly junk straps will meet pretty much all of your strap-related cycling needs. Compact and easy to use, I primarily use these to strap bulky items to the top of my rack and free up space in my panniers. Simple, solid strapping and fumble-less unstrapping, heavy duty material, long but not annoyingly long, and relatively cheap. Treat yourself to a pair today! You'll always be glad you have them and you'll never be glad that you don't have them.
